"The Media Arts in Transition conference is a collaboration among Walker Art Center's Learning Museum Program, the National Alliance of Media Art Centers, the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, University Community Video and Film in the Cities.
Our purpose in organizing The Media Arts in Transition was to focus on the contemporary technological, social, economic and aesthetic forces shaping the future of the media arts. New technologies offer artists new tools to work with as well as different forms of distribution of their work to the public. Shrinking economic resources impose restrictions on the way artists work and can influence the nature of the work. Social and political changes also affect aesthetic choices made by artists and viewers." -Melinda Ward in "Introduction"
